Job Description
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) Examination Design Projects
subdivision is looking for an experienced software engineer to join
our team developing precision mechatronic examination systems for
inspecting irradiated fuel from the Navy's submarines and aircraft
carriers and experiments in the Advanced Test Reactor (ATR). We are
tasked with (1) developing new examination systems for three new
facilities dedicated to processing and testing spent nuclear fuel
and ATR specimens and (2) major system upgrades needed to continue
examinations at our current test facility until the new facilities
are deployed. As a Software Engineer in the Examination Design
Projects subdivision, you will play a vital role in architecting,
designing, and deploying the custom software solution aspects of
our control systems. Our control systems typically focus on X, Y, Z
axis motion control, data acquisition and processing, and database
design with high value placed on developing systems that optimize
lifecycle management. Your specific tasks will include a mix of
hands-on work in the laboratory environment where systems are
designed and tested as well as office-based work to develop design
documentation and author software code. You will collaborate with
cross-functional teams, including mechanical and electrical
engineers, test sponsors, and operations personnel at Naval
Reactors Facility (NRF) to deliver cutting-edge solutions to the
challenges associated with examining spent nuclear fuel and
performing irradiations testing.
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in
engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant
experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or
university in engineering or science related field and 2 years of
relevant experience; or Currently or previously NPE qualified; or
CTE/ACRS and 1 year EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations
Program; or Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling
Engineer and 1 year as SRE.

Pay Range
$83,600.00 - $130,700.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guide line only. Annual
salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as
well as market and business considerations
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of
