Job Description:
The Nuclear Pharmacist is responsible for overseeing all
operations of Nuclear Pharmacy including conducting order
verification, preparation
and dispensing of radiopharmaceuticals, ensuring compliance with
Cleveland Clinic department of Pharmacy and Nuclear Medicine
policies,
as well as State and Federal regulations for the safe handling and
security of radioactive and hazardous materials. The Nuclear
Pharmacist
will participate in multidisciplinary research and education.
- Orders, receives, stores and controls inventory of radioactive
drugs (radiopharmaceuticals), other drugs used in nuclear medicine,
and related supplies.
- Prepares and compounds radiopharmaceuticals.
- Prepares and compounds radiopharmaceuticals.
- Performs functional checks of instruments, equipment, and
devices and determines radiopharmaceutical quality and purity.
- Packages, labels, and transports radiopharmaceuticals.
- Properly handles hazardous chemicals and biological
specimens.
- Professionally communicates radiopharmaceutical and
drug-related information to healthcare providers.
- Ensures that patients are dispensed proper preparation.
- Establishes and adheres to policies and procedures to ensure
USP 797 and USP 825 compliance to ensure proper sterility,
stability, and quality control of radiopharmaceutical
preparation.
- Supports and participates in research by reviewing research
protocols and serving as the nuclear pharmacy liaison to other
researchers and investigational drug services department.
- Precepts and/or trains medical, nursing, and pharmacy students,
residents, and healthcare providers.
- Maintains expertise in nuclear pharmacy through continual
learning, journal review and other educational activities.
- Other duties as assigned. Education:
- PharmD or Bachelors of Science degree in Pharmacy from an
accredited college of pharmacy.
- Completion of a post-graduate residency program in nuclear
pharmacy is preferred. 4,000 hours of experience in nuclear
pharmacy practice may offset this requirement.
- Board Certification in nuclear pharmacy preferred or eligible
for certification in 1 year (must obtain board certification in
nuclear
pharmacy within 1 year). Certifications:
- Current State licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or
eligible for reciprocation in current State within 90 days of
hire.
- Board Certification in Nuclear Pharmacy (BCNP) is
preferred.
- Authorized User of Radioactive Material. Experience: Three
years of experience in a nuclear pharmacy.
