Starting hourly rate: $22.69

The position is 8 hours per day, 260 days per year.

To be eligible for the position under this examination, all applicants must be U.S. citizens or possess a valid permanent resident card. All applicants must be high school graduates or possess a G.E.D., and have no felony convictions. Job Description Reports to: SUPERVISOR OF TRANSPORTATION

Required :

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Civil service eligibility
• Valid School Bus Operator s License or obtain one within a year
• Previous experience in the repair of diesel and gasoline engines
• Previous experience in the repair of standard and automatic transmissions
• Previous experience in tune-up and minor body repairs
• Previous experience in fixing and/or installation of brakes
• Physical ability to handle materials weighing up to 100 lbs.
• Physical ability to work in and under transportation vehicles
• Ability to work without supervision
• Cooperate and get along with others
• Honesty
• Work as a member of a team
  Responsibilities :
  The responsibilities of a Transportation Mechanic include, but are not limited to, the following:
  
• Diagnose and repair district automotive equipment
• Maintains a current inventory of supplies and equipment
• Promotes high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work-connected areas
• Establishes an efficient and effective system of routine automotive maintenance and preventive care
• Works with highway patrol for inspection of school buses
• Keep accurate maintenance records
• Provides information for repairs
• Provides information regarding the sale and trade in values of vehicles
• Performs other duties as directed
